Overview
Pro Business Connections (“PBC”, “we”, “us”) operates a business referral community. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It covers three places you may interact with us:
- This website — public pages, membership applications, contact and newsletter forms, event RSVPs and referrals sent to a member.
- The member dashboard at referral.probusinessconnections.com, including when it is installed to your home screen as an app.
- The Pro Business Connections mobile app for iOS and Android.
The platform is operated on our behalf by Sky Vista Consulting, LLC. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
If you only visit this website
You can browse without giving us anything. We collect information only when you choose to submit a form:
- Membership application — your name, email, phone, business name and category, the chapter you are interested in, and who referred you.
- Contact and chapter-interest forms — your name, email, phone and message.
- Newsletter — your email address.
- Event RSVP — your name, email, phone and any interests you select.
- Sending a referral to a member — your name and contact details, and the details of the referral you are passing on.
We use these to respond to you, to process a membership application, and to pass a referral to the member it was addressed to.
If you are a member
To run your membership and the referral network, we hold:
- Your profile — name, email, phone numbers, business name, job title, business category, website, social links, date of birth, profile and cover photos, and the biography and referral preferences you write.
- Chapter activity — the chapter you belong to, meeting attendance, guests you invite, and any board position you hold.
- Referrals — referrals you give and receive, their status, notes, and any revenue you record against them.
- Messages — chapter chat messages you send.
- Board elections — nominations you make or accept, and the ballots you cast. Other members only ever see vote totals, and only after an election closes. Chapter and system administrators can see how members voted, for audit purposes.
- Membership and billing — your dues status, renewal dates, payment history and the last four digits and card brand of a saved card. We never see or store full card numbers — those go directly to our payment processor.
- Technical records — sign-in activity and, if you enable notifications, a device token so we can send them.
The mobile app, and what it does not collect
The app asks for a small number of device permissions. Each is used only for the feature it belongs to:
- Camera — to scan a QR code for meeting check-in. Images are not saved or transmitted.
- Microphone— only while you are dictating a referral. Speech is converted to text by your device’s own speech recognition; we store the resulting text, not a recording.
- Photos — only the image you pick for your profile or cover picture.
- Notifications — to send referral alerts, meeting reminders and election notices.
The app does not request or collect your location, does not read your contacts, and does not collect payment information.
Text messages
We send text messages only to members who have given us a mobile number and agreed to receive them — for example a new referral, a meeting reminder, or a renewal notice.
- Message frequency varies with your chapter’s activity.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them, or START to resume. Reply HELP for assistance.
- Opting out of texts does not affect your membership, and you will still receive notices by email and in the app.
We do not sell or share mobile numbers or SMS consent with third parties for their marketing. Numbers are shared only with the messaging provider that delivers the message on our behalf.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of service providers to operate the platform. They may only use your information to provide their service to us:
- Square — payment processing for membership dues. Card details go directly to Square.
- Twilio — delivery of text messages.
- SendGrid — delivery of email.
- Google Firebase — push notifications to the mobile app.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — distribution of the mobile app.
- DigitalOcean — hosting, in the United States.
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, or to protect the rights and safety of our members.
What other members can see
PBC is a referral network, so parts of your profile are meant to be seen. Other members of the platform can see your name, business, category, chapter, photo, contact details and the referral preferences you write, and can see referrals exchanged with them.
Some information appears on the public member directory of this website. If you would rather it did not, contact us and we will remove it.
How long we keep it
We keep member information for as long as your membership is active, and afterwards for as long as we need it for chapter records, financial and tax obligations, and resolving disputes. Referral and attendance history is part of a chapter’s record and is generally retained even after a member leaves. Enquiries and applications that do not become memberships are kept only as long as needed to follow up.
How we protect it
All traffic to our website, dashboard and apps is encrypted in transit with HTTPS. Passwords are stored using a one-way hash and cannot be read by us or recovered — only reset. Access to member data inside the platform is limited by role, and chapter administrators can only see their own chapter.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will tell you.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information — edit your profile in the dashboard or the app at any time.
- Delete your account — you can delete your account from your account settings in the member dashboard, or ask us and we will do it. Some records we are required to keep are described above.
- Notifications — choose which notices you receive, and on which channel, in your notification settings.
- Text messages — reply STOP to any message.
- Email — use the unsubscribe link, or ask us.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your personal information, including the right to request a copy of it or object to how we use it. To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below and we will respond.
Children
PBC is for business owners and professionals. The platform is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will tell members directly. Continuing to use the platform after a change means you accept the updated policy.
